Undergraduate Research Experience Scholarship Program
A limited number of positions are available for third year BSc. and B Biomed Sci. students to obtain research experience in basic laboratory science. The department is in an excellent research environment for science students to take advantage of research work experience in a hospital setting. All four research groups within the department offer this program which is designed to give students an indication of what research is really about, and to determine whether they are interested in completing their studies with an Honours year in the Department.
The research interests range from treatment of colorectal liver metastases, liver transplantation, cancer biology, and the role of gastrointestinal peptides in cancer. Students will gain expertise in several laboratory techniques. This program will help students to determine whether they are interested in completing their studies with an Honours year in the department.
Students will rotate through the different laboratories within the department and gain experience in the techniques used by the various research groups, involving one afternoon per week for six weeks
The Department of Surgery will award a maximum of four Research Experience Scholarships to the value of $500 for a 6 week part time placement. Students will be working within the department one afternoon per week for six weeks during semester 2 (flexible starting date).
Student selection will be based on interview, academic record and Faculty Honour Score. To apply for the program please complete the application form.
