Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Department of Surgery Austin Health

Applying for Honours & Postgraduate Diploma In Science

Application Process and Eligibility

Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Biomedical Science students may not be aware that they may elect to do an Honours project outside the Faculty of Science. There are many departments within the Faculty of MDHS which offer a B.Sc. Honours program. The research within these departments is mainly biological and clinical biomedical science and therefore will suit students who may wish to continue their studies in a medical or biomedical field.
The Department of Surgery offers an Honours program within the setting of one of the major teaching hospitals in Victoria, Austin Health. Many of the supervisors in the department are both scientists and clinicians, so that Honours projects can be either laboratory or clinically based, or a combination of the two.

Application Process

Step 1

Read the information on the Faculty of Science website pertaining to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Postgraduate Diploma in Science.

Step 2

Read through the research projects on offer (put in links to projects and project book) and decide which area most interests you.

Step 3

Liaise with the relevant departmental supervisors or course co-ordinators to discuss application requirements.

Step 4

Contact the potential supervisors to arrange informal discussions about the project. Contact the Honours co-ordinator to arrange a tour of the department and research facilities.

Step 5

Once the supervisor has agreed to supervise you, complete the relevant sections of the Faculty of Science University Application Form and Departmental Application Form. Submit the application along with the required documentation to the relevant department.
