There are a number of scholarships and grants, both internal and external, which are available for the prospective research student at the Department of Surgery, Austin Health. In addition, exemplary students are able to achieve prestigious research prizes offered by the University and the Department.

RESEARCH HIGHER DEGREE SCHOLARSHIPS

Students wishing to enroll full-time for postgraduate PhD in our department are encouraged to apply for scholarships. BLADIN SCHOLARSHIP GRANT
Topics: Cancer and other diseases of the Gastrointestinal Tract

We have vacancies for eligible students to undertake a PhD degree involving full time research.  Students who successfully obtain an APA or MRS are encouraged to apply.  Funding may be available if you are unsuccessful in your application. Our aims are to translate the findings from basic research to improve clinical practice and ultimately the health of the community. Our location in a major teaching hospital with clinical and basic science researchers working together helps advance our aims.

PhD scholarships are available in the areas of treatment of colorectal metastases, role of regulatory peptides such as gastrin and bombesin in tumour growth, liver transplantation and acute pancreatitis. The projects will provide training in cancer biology, molecular biology, peptide chemistry, animal models of diseases and human pathophysiology.

DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY HONOURS RESEARCH PRIZE
A Departmental Prize is awarded at the Annual Austin Health Research Week for the most outstanding poster presented by our Honours Students. The prize for the most outstanding poster from a BSc(Hons) student consists of a Certificate of Excellence and a $100 voucher from the University of Melbourne Bookroom.


SCIENCE MELBOURNE HONOURS SCHOLARSHIP
The Faculty of Science offers scholarships to Commonwealth Supported Students enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Science (Degree with Honours) or the Bachelor of Information Systems (Degree with Honours)
Category : Honours
Conditions : Students must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or New Zealand citizen, or hold an Australian permanent humanitarian visa, and remain enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Science (Degree with Honours) or the Bachelor of Information Systems (Degree with Honours)
Value : $2000.00 allowance, with a HECS exempt Commonwealth Supported Place
